No Limit Plays New Players Must AvoidAs you play No Limit Holdem, you will eventually come across players who lose games by committing all sorts of unforced errors or bad plays. For you, it is important that you learn them so that you will be able to spot a weak player on your table and use it to your advantage and of course avoid them. The first thing you will notice is that new No Limit players will often play unsuited connectors. This is all right as long as you restrict to the premium hands like AK to AJ, but below that they should be mucked, especially in tight games. If you hit a pair, chances are they will be beaten by a higher one, or a set. If you get the straight, you will face the flush, which you cannot match. Some players also have this tendency to raise with marginal or weak holdings. This is a No Limit strategy that you simply cannot use. In lower stakes, fixed limit games, you may get way with it a few times, but in No Limit, the possibility is always there that you your opponent will go all in and you will get stacked. The bottom line is that is that if you face a raise, it means that your opponent holds something good, so you should raise or re raise when you have something solid too. You cannot bluff a raise, because it will be too costly. Speaking of bluffing, this No Limit strategy, alongside playing rag hands like K2, 2-7 etc. is one of the most glaring examples of inexperience on the part of new players. The reason bluffing almost always get called online is that it is often used in appropriate ways. We cannot discuss all the ways to use the bluff, but in general, do it only if you are on the button, or at the turn if the board is weak. The problem with a lot of No Limit players is that they try it way too often and at the wrong times. Their is nothing with bluffing per se; it is the players that are using them inappropriately. Although it is a common sight for new players in No Limit to make these mistakes, it need not apply to you. Now that you know the major errors that other new players commit, you can shun them and play a much better and more refined game. |
